Disclaimer: I received this Complimentary Product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

If you know me at all, you know one of my core values is Biblical Literacy. I think knowing the Bible is paramount over all the other disciplines out there. BUT I struggle to make Bible part of our homeschool rhythm. I’ve never wanted my kids to see the Bible or their faith as “school.” It’s a weird tension that’s probably just in my mind! I want my kids to study Scripture…but I want them to study it because they WANT to. You know? I want them to want to do it because they want to know Jesus more… not because I put it on a school checklist! Well… we have been given a chance to review The Bible Memory App- Bible Memory Pro through the Homeschool Review Crew… and I think it might just be one of the answers I’m looking for!

We were given the PRO account from The Bible Memory App. I am able to share the account with all of my family members. They just need to have their own email address. I set up my account through my computer and then downloaded the app on my phone. My husband, teens, and I have Samsung phones. My younger girls have Kindle Fires.

The Bible Memory app utilizes audio, visual, and kinesthetic learning to memorize Scripture. You can access several translations of the Bible including:

  • Amplified Version
  • Christian Standard Bible
  • English Standard Version
  • Holman Christian Bible
  • King James Version
  • New American Standard Bible
  • New International Version
  • New International Version 1984
  • New King James Version
  • New Living Translation
  • Reina Valera 1909
  • Reina Velera 1960
  • The Message

The app allows you to organize your verses. My kids who are in youth group have a verse they are supposed to memorize each week. We made folders in our apps specifically for those verses.

The app uses auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles to help ensure mastery of Bible verses:

Kinesthetic Memory: Type the first letter of each word in a verse to quickly memorize it in a proven, 3-step memorization process, Type It—Memorize It—Master It

Visual Memory: Draw Pictures and use Flash Cards*. Animated Word Emphasis feature accentuates each word to ingrain it into your memory.

Auditory Memory: Record verse audio and playback for hands-free review*

*these are features in the PRO version.

I haven’t really investigated the visual features yet, but the kinesthetic and the auditory have been great. My teens are especially excited and have been using the app to help with the youth group memory verse challenge!

For the kinesthetic feature, you have a verse. The first few times you go through the verse, you type the first letter of each word as you read the verse. The next step leaves some of the words blank. You still type the first letter as you go. If you miss a word, it will show you in red what the word is.

You can organize your verses into collections. There is also a review section. Once you’ve mastered a verse, it moves into the review section for you to review and keep fresh in your memory. You can also download the entire Bible and read from the app.

Another feature that is really helpful is the “groups.” You can create a group and invite family, friends, your small group, etc. to join with you in Scripture Memory.

Psalm 119: 11 says:

I have stored up your word in my heart,

that I might not sin against you.

I have stores up your word in my heart. Scripture memory is important. Sure… we have our phones and Bibles at our fingertips and can look up Scripture. But that may not always be the case. Plus… it is just really amazing to see how God uses his living and active word in our lives when we choose to prioritize it and store it in our hearts. His Holy Spirit will bring to mind a verse at an opportune time when you just weren’t even expecting it. Let’s teach our kids (and ourselves) to build our Spiritual arsenal with God’s word. The Bible Memory App is a great tool to help with memorizing Scripture.
