Apologetics is defined as 1. systematic argumentative discourse in defense (as of a doctrine) 2. a branch of theology devoted to the defense of the divine origin and authority of Christianity. I have always been drawn to Christian Apologetics… being able to defend the Christian faith in a reasonable, hopeful, intelligent way. It is my hope to equip my children as they grow in their faith to know how to give a reason for the hope that is within them. I was thrilled when given the chance to review The Unbreakable Faith Course from Pilgrim’s Rock, LLC.

“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

1 Peter 3:15, ESV

About the Course

I received a two year access to The Unbreakable Faith Course as well as two physical books, The Box and God The Reason (both by Craig Biehl). The course is self-paced and divided into six parts. The first five parts are filled with instructional videos and assigned reading. There is a quiz at the end of each of the first five parts. The quizzes are a one time deal… no re-dos. The quizzes are timed as well… twenty-five minutes. Part six of the course is the final exam. This is a graded course and can be completed for unit of highschool credit. Quizzes count for 75% of the final grade with the final exam making up the other 25%. The course is designed in such a way that you cannot jump ahead. You must complete the components in the order intended. For example, I cannot watch video number 2 until I have watched video number 1.

The website is super easy to navigate. The workload is super reasonable. The videos are short, only about 10-13 minutes each. Although the course length is set for thirty-six weeks, a highly motivated student could complete it in less time.

There are several options to contact the instructor should assistance be required.

The Unbreakable Faith Course provided a printable syllabus complete with the course description, student learning outcomes, course requirements, grading scale, and course calendar. The syllabus is thorough and easy to follow. I think it will be a great tool for my kids to understand how to take direction from other people than me!

Unbreakable Faith explores the nature and implications of the infinite excellence of God’s perfections (attributes) and demotstrates how they form the source and basis for all things in the universe, including all knowledge, truth, and ethics….Designed to simply and easily immunize the student against the most sophisticated arguments of unbelief, Unbreakable Faith provides the foundation for a solid, comprehensive, logical, and satisfying biblical worldview, while providing the means to adequately address the deepest theological differences and mysteries.

The Books

In addition to access to the online course, I also received two books: The Box and God the Reason. The Box, Answering the Faith of Unbelief is a quick read and required to be finished for Part 1 of the Unbreakable Faith Course. This is a well written dialog between a Christian (Mr. C) and an Athiest turned Agnostic (Mr. A). We follow their relationship as they enter into dialog about issues of faith.

The second book, God the Reason: How Infinite Excellence Gives Unbreakable Faith, is an apologetics work. The book is relevant in today’s culture and I would recommend it to anyone interested in Christian apologetics.

My son is almost fifteen and in 9th grade. He is the primary person I had in mind when hoping for this review opportunity. However… he already has a full course load for this year so I didn’t want to overwhelm him by requiring he take the Unbreakable Faith Course. For the purposes of this review, I am speaking from my personal experiences. The course is designed for students 15 + and adults. I did have my son sit with me and watch the introduction videos. We talked about apologetics and the value of learning to defend your faith. He is very interested in the course, just not right this minute. He asked if he could do it over the summer or maybe in the fall.

As a youth leader and homeschool mom of teens, I really think The Unbreakable Faith Course is an incredibly valuable tool. At some point, our kids have to own their faith. I cannot spoon feed my children the Bible and expect them to be mature believers. Teaching them to understand and own their faith in the form of Christian apologetics is something I am excited to do. Our world is unstable and the culture is shifting. Teaching our students to know and stand firm on the solid foundation of Christ and the Bible is so crucial. Just the few conversations I had with my son while working on this review were deep and meaningful.
