We have used SchoolhouseTeachers.com for the last several years. I could not be happier with all the things they have to offer. As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, we received the Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership from SchoolhouseTeachers.com. Let me tell you about all the things!!!

SchoolhouseTeachers.com is “Christian, self-paced, homeschool courses with customizable curriculum.” They offer over 400 courses from PreK-12th grade. The customer service is amazing. They have a help chat available at the bottom right of your screen with helpful people ready and willing to guide you through any questions you may have. They have fantastic resources for parents including things like report card creators, schedule builders, unit studies for parents, monthly menus, organization tips, and more.

But wait… there’s more!

Included in your SchoolhouseTeachers.com Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership is access to Worldbook Online and Right Now Media!!

What the what?!?!

The World Book Online resources are divided by Library, by Grade, and By Subjects. Many of the courses offered on SchoolhouseTeachers.com are linked to the resources on World Book Online. My 8th grade daughter is currently taking Physical Science. Every week, she has articles to read or videos to watch through World Book Online. It is great, interactive, and easy to navigate.

Right Now Media is a streaming media service. I think of it kind of like a Christian Netflix (my words… not theirs). Again, some of the courses on SchoolhouseTeachers.com are linked to the resources on Right Now Media. In addition to the video linked classes, you have access to so many videos, Bible Studies, Devotionals, and resources for children, youth, young adults, married couples. This feature of your Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership is worth its weight in gold!

As if what I’ve told you isn’t enough… let me continue!

SchoolhouseTeachers.com offers over 400 courses. Some are short- 4-6 weeks and some cover the entire year. Everything you need to homeschool your child is available. Your membership covers your entire family for one year. There are no hidden costs or fees. One membership for the entire family.

A few of the courses we have enjoyed in the past are:

Civil Rights Movement

Web Game Design

Intro to Architecture

Elements of Literature

Nature/ Outdoors

Courses are available for every student and every grade. We use SchoolhouseTeachers.com kind of like an ala carte situation. At the beginning of the school year, I let my kids brainstorm with me about the things they would like to learn in the coming year. Once they come up with some ideas, we look through the course offerings on SchoolhouseTeachers.com and piece together their year. This year my fifteen year old son wanted to take Geology because he had been working at a local gem mine (you know those tourist shops where you get to sift through buckets of dirt and find cool rocks?). We found a great, complete Geology course on SchoolhouseTeachers.com. It is video-based and covers the entire year resulting in a Geology/ Science credit for his high school transcript. My daughters are excited to start the American Sign Language Course (ASL) next week.

We do try to keep a delight-directed school vibe around our house. I am careful with what I label as “school” because my older two children currently buck against all things “school.” They haven’t caught my vision of life long learning and out of the box thinking for education yet. They are very compartmentalized in their learning. However… when one of them has something they are interested in…. for example, learning guitar… I remind them that we have resources available and encourage them to consider using said resources. SchoolhouseTeachers.com has a great 28 week, video based guitar class.

Lesson Plans

Each course on SchoolhouseTeachers.com has a similar lay out.

When you click on your course, you will see towards the top the length of the course, what the content type is like and the age the course is appropriate for. Each course has a certificate of completion that you can print. You’ll notice on the right side, you can head over to the lesson plans and other lesson content.

Continuing with using Geology as my example, I clicked on “Go to Class Lessons.” Here I can look at the lesson plan as well as class materials (worksheets, answer keys, etc.). This is also where my son goes to access the videos when he is working on the class. From here you can download and print whatever materials you may need. I am still a firm believer of writing on paper so we print out the worksheets, but some people choose to do things totally on the computer… which is great if that’s your jam!

When you click on “Lesson Plans,” you will first see your year at a glance. The above is the overview of the first part of the year and what we can expect to learn in Geology. This particular course is broken into two, seventeen week units.

Further into the lesson plans, you’ll find the week by week plans. Some classes are planned for three days per week, some four, some five. The lesson plans are great. They are comprehensive and easy to follow. you can print them out and keep track of when they are completed and any notes you need to make. I use Evernotes with my teenagers so I transfer the information from the SchoolhouseTeachers.com lesson plans into the checklists I create for them.

Curriculum Boxes

One of my favorite newer features of SchoolhouseTeachers.com are the virtual curriculum boxes. The idea of these “boxes” is to take the guess work out for you. It can be overwhelming to log on and see ALL THE THINGS and to know where to start. The curriculum boxes are curated for each grade and offer a complete course guide using the courses offered on SchoolhouseTeachers.com. The curriculum box option is available for free through your membership.

The curriculum boxes are not physical boxes mailed to your home, but rather virtual boxes easily accessed on the menu bar at the top of your SchoolhouseTeachers.com home page.

You can rest easy knowing that your courses have been selected and the lesson plans are waiting and ready for you! The curriclum boxes bring peace of mind that you haven’t missed anything necessary for your child to have a solid year of homeschooling. You just pick your grade, scroll down and click on the subject to be taken to the curated course.

SchoolhouseTeachers.com is offering a Fresh Start sale until the end of January. Click the banner above to take advantage of the offer pictured! You get everything I’ve talked about and more for just $139 for an entire year. It really is a great deal.
