Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

I would so love to be fluent in a foreign language. I have dreams of family language learning times… we all sit together and learn and practice. We have dinners where you can only speak Spanish together. The reality, however… foreign language often gets pushed to the back burner of our homeschool. When the opportunity to review the Educator’s Spanish Collection from Whitslefritz presented itself, I was happy to take it.

The Educator’s Spanish Collection from Whistlefritz is a multi media collection designed for pre-K and early elementary. My kids don’t fit the age range anymore, but I think foreign language is one of those things that can be adapted for various ages. Whitslefritz uses the immersion method for teaching. “Language immersion” means children learn a second language by hearing and speaking only that language without translation.

For our review we received:

  • A Set of DVDs and CDs
  • Spanish Matching Cards
  • Spanish Lesson Plans for Kids

The lesson plans that come with the program are designed with English speakers and Spanish speakers in mind. The plans tell you exaclty what to say. The Home Educator’s Guide is something you can download for free and comes with a suggested weekly calendar. The program is perfect for different learning styles- auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. The weekly calendar plans utilize music, videos, and a variety of bonus activities that reinforce learning through hands on activities. One favorite activity at our house was to create a comic strip of two characters meeting each other for the first time and describing how the greet each other.

This is a really well thought out program. All the pieces work well together to create a rich language learning experience. The music and videos introduce and review vocabulary as well as modeling proper pronounciation. Children will hear directly how native speakers converse. The lesson plans provide depth and plenty of review. The lesson plans take what is introduced in the videos and expand it to encourage mastery. The program also comes with memory cards for help when reviewing. With forty lessons, Whistlefritz can be part of your entire homeschool year!

This is an extremely user friendly product. Everything is very easy to follow. I don’t have a CD player in my car anymore… so sad, but if I did, we would totally take these CDs on the road to keep the immersion going!

The lessons are often cross curricular (meaning they bring in other subjects like math) which is really great, in my opinion. The lesson plans themselves are broken into sections:

  • Description of the Lesson
  • Goal
  • Objective
  • Vocabulary
  • Materials
  • Focus and Review
  • Teacher Input
  • Guided Practice
  • Independent Practice
  • Closure
  • Extension Activities

Don’t let the idea of teaching a foreign language scare you. Whistlefritz makes is super easy!
