If you are looking for a solid Bible curriculum for your teen, keep reading!!! We were recently given an opportunity to review Behold Your God from Positive Action Bible Curriculum. As a mom of teens and a youth worker, I’m always on the look out for solid material when it comes to studying the Bible.

Positive Action Bible Curriculum is all about “equipping Bible teachers to share God’s glory with the next generation.” That’s what it’s all about, right?!? The Bible has been around for thousands of years. Even before the written word, the stories of God’s faithfulness was passed down in the form of story from generation to generation. What a legacy we get to play a part in when we choose to study Scripture and pass what we are learning on to our children.

Positive Action Biblical Curriculum has been creating solid materials for churches, schools, and homeschools since the 1970s. Their impact is world wide.

We were given a high school focused Bible study called, “Behold Your God.” The purpose of this study is to introduce your student o basic Christian theology. How we view God determines our outlook on everything else. This study dives deep in looking at what Scripture has to say about God the Father, the Son, and the Spirit.

The student book is broken into six units:

  • The Knowledge of God
  • The Nature of God
  • The Attributes of God
  • The History of Christ
  • The Person of Christ
  • The Holy Spirit

The chapters (There are 35 total) contain reading, student work, and application activities. This could be a year long curriculum by completing one chapter per week. The student work includes reading and exercises students can complete on their own. The exercises help with reading and analyzing Scripture. The application activities encourages students to examine their beliefs in light of Scripture.

The teacher’s guide comes with thorough teaching materials, testing materials, and (my favorite) the answer key. The teacher’s guide helps you (the parent or teacher) prepare and present truth.

Each lesson includes:

  • Scripture references
  • Relevant explanations of the passages cited
  • Illustrations and Discussion Questions

The guide has a suggested weekly schedule. There are suggestions for a 3 day, 4 day, or 5 day option. All the options begin with an introduction and end with a quiz or test. The guide also includes a Scripture memory program with core verses and bonus verses for each lesson. The teacher’s guide also includes the student text so you can know what your student is reading.

I’m really a fan of the materials from Postive Action Biblical Curriculum. The studies are well thought out and clearly have both student and teacher in mind. The illustrations are relevant and the work is reasonable. The teacher’s guide is very easy to follow. You don’t have to be a theologian to guide your children through these studies. And… bonus… you’ll learn a ton too!!!

Behold Your God puts the Bible at the forefront of learning. It is filled with passages of Scripture and teaches students how to dig in and understand what they are reading. You can totally adapt the study to your needs by choosing how many days per week you will work and also choosing which application activities you want your student to complete.

This would be a great study to do in a classroom setting as well… either a co op or a Sunday School. You can order individual student texts as needed.

I think Christian parents often take for granted that our kids have a solid foundation. Even if they have grown up in church and know the stories and have memorized the verses, high school years are pivotal and they are looking at things through their ever developing minds. It is a perfect time to go back and make sure the foundation is solid. Behold Your God is a great tool for doing just that!
